Rocks, my enemies, my friends, in English:

There are many rocks in the vineyard at CHV. Everywhere as a matter of fact. They are rough when driving or walking on them. They damage the blades of the mower. And there are so many, you can't even take them out. So what can I do?

I started pushing them to the side, at the base of and in between the plants, and discover that they stop the erosion of the ground as well as protecting it from drying, slow down the weeds, keep the ground warm when the weather is cold, cooler when too hot out. Now the rocks are my friends.

Maybe that why they do that in some vineyards in France where rocks are everywhere!

Copper Horse Vineyard Rocks

Pierres, mes ennemies, mes amies, en Français:

Les pierres sont abondantes dans le vignoble à Copper Horse Vineyard. En fait, les pierres sont partout. C'est dur pour les pneus en roulant dessus, ou pour les pieds en marchant dessus. Ils abiment les lames de la tondeuse. Et puis il y en a tellement qu'on ne peut même pas les retirer toutes. Que peut-on faire?

J'ai commencé à les pousser sur le coté, à la base des vignes et entre les vignes, et j'ai découvert que les pierres arrêtent l'érosion du sol tout en le protégeant de la sécheresse, ralentissent les mauvaises herbes, gardent le sol chaud quand le temps est froid, et frais quand il fait très chaud dehors. Maintenant les pierres sont mes amies.

Peut-être que c'est pour cela que certain vignobles en France (Chåteau Neuf Du Pape) font de même quand les pierres (galets) sont partout.
